Colony Worms is dedicated to helping farming communities turn kitchen scraps and agricultural waste into nutrient‑rich soil. By sharing free designs, guides and research, we make vermicomposting accessible to all. Our aim is to build healthy soils, reduce waste and strengthen colonies through collaboration.
Worm castings improve soil structure and water retention, boost seed germination and bring beneficial microbes back into your soil. They help detoxify soils by binding heavy metals and can naturally suppress diseases and pests. Castings are gentle on plants—think of them as a slow‑release superfood for your garden.
Worm tea is a liquid fertilizer created by steeping castings in aerated water. This microbe‑rich brew improves soil health, increases nutrient availability and strengthens plant immune systems. To make your own, suspend castings in a porous bag, aerate the water for a day or two and then apply to soil or foliage weekly.
Give your worms a varied mix of vegetable scraps, fruit peels, coffee grounds, tea bags and crushed eggshells. Diversity keeps the compost balanced and the worms healthy. Avoid adding oily foods or large amounts of citrus. While meat and dairy aren’t ideal, small pieces can be buried deep in the bin if covered well to prevent odours.
